Livin' on the Road
03:27
|
|||
Burning up the blacktop across the vast prairie
Skipping all the truck stops in search of wild country
Go and snatch a road map before we get lost
Gotta get back on track these roads get me crisscrossed
Glowing gold beside back roads, beauty's beyond boundless
Rolling hills, give me thrills, lead me to the mountains
The summer sun heat beats rising from the asphalt
Cars go tearing through the streets until they hit the road salt
When the weather switches and the snow begins to blow
Keep between the ditches or you’ll run it off the road
Midnight run to morning sun, when you get the call
Rain to sleet to snow so deep, driving through it all
Underpass to overpass
Give it gas, get going fast
Keep the pace don’t hit the brakes
Lead the chase, give what it takes
Headlights shine on dark nights
Reflect lines and road signs
Ones that show where to go
But anywhere is home when you’re livin' on the road
Semi trucks get packed up and ride the rough terrain
Hay bales get stacked up before the autumn rain
Loaded up and long hauling with the heavy freight
Smarten up, semi truck, and keep it under the weight
Oilers fill the trailers from the tankers in the north
Flames the engine fires, spins the tires back and forth
Northern goods travel down Highway 63
Passing by all the small towns and picking up some speed
Cruising on the QE2 from the dirty city
Hey Cowtown we're coming through but we’ll be gone here quickly
Ride like a cowboy and enjoy the mountain trail
Get closer to the border and open up the sails

Grandpa Was a Bushman
02:52
|
|||
Grandpa was a bushman
It was all he'd ever known
His daddy took him shooting guns
When he was six years old
His mama rode the saddle
Rusted spurs on her boots
The winters were rough and the times were tough
In Manitoba's Parkland Jewel
Far camp in the backwoods
Down that old logging road he would go
Hunting, fishing, trapping game
He'd check his lines alone
He'd head up in Duck Mountain
Set his sights on a moose
Then he'd get him a bear and a whitetail deer
And a big gray wolf to boot
Farming with his family
He worked his bushman hands to the bone
Planting seeds just to make ends meet
He'd watch them as they grow
Big ol' herd of cattle
And a team of horses too
He'd leave his wife at home with the kids alone
Just doing what he had to do
Grandpa was a bushman
Even when the farm had sold
He’d leave town in his pickup truck
And get lost on some dirt road
They’d find him in the valley
With tears in his eyes
He'd have to wipe them away in an old folks cage
But he would rather die
Yeah he would rather die

Seems to Me
02:56
|

Seems to me
That this world keeps on spinning
Whether you're losing or winning
It keeps right on time
So make believe
That there's no weight on your shoulders
And you ain't growing older
Yeah you're doing just fine
Seems to me there's always something
Clouded minds impairing judgement
It makes things difficult to see
And we're all left to sit and wonder
Through the rain and pounding thunder
Is this as bad as it could be?
Seems to me
That there's no one out to get you
But you're crying for a rescue
When you've already been found
Eventually
When the dust has all settled
You'll be perfectly nestled
With both feet on the ground
So keep your head up through the bad times
Even if it's cloudy as can be
The days can't all be made of sunshine
But I'll be there for you like you are there for me

Whisky Waltz
05:19
|
|||
Looking for love at the bottom of a bottle
Finding friendship in the ones that I fondle
Liquor from my coat warms the back of my throat
Staggering my way through the streets
Midnight lays behind me, the morning has broken
I'm fixing to forget all the phrases I’ve spoken
When a drunken head shares sober secrets unsaid
Walking alone finds me peace
The dark rises up from the snow on the ground
Stars in the sky backdrop this sleepy town
A full moon is shining a solo spotlight
A cold wind blows across this prairie night
My winter walks switch to a whisky waltz
There’s a fire burning somewhere out there
The smell of smoke and cedar fills the air
The warmth gets lost with a glimpse of hoarfrost
And that lonesome feeling is found
One last look as I breathe it all in
Watch as my breath carries off with the wind
Tip my head back one last pull from the flask
And all of my sorrows are drowned

Brushstrokes
04:39
|
|||
She brings me breakfast in the morning
Pail of oats and a flake of hay
She separates me from the others
I am hers for the day
In the barn my heart's a flutter
As the brushstrokes through my mane
She sets the saddle and I wonder
If I'm the blood that's in her veins
If wishes were horses, beggars would ride
Kicking up a storm of dust behind
They will implore us in galloping stride
To leave love's forces where they lie
She brings me breakfast in the morning
Coffee, toast, and scrambled eggs
She says I'm not like the others
But I've always been this way
Like the artist paints in colour
As the brushstrokes span the page
There was a time when we weren't lovers, oh no
I am hers if she'll stay
